Vintage Ornaments

Vintage ornaments are ornaments that have been passed down through out the years, and very often are as old as the tradition or decorating trees for Christmas.  These ornaments were bought by your grandparents parents.  You can tell whether ornaments are vintage or not, and the way you can tell is that they are not made with the same materials that they used to be made from.  They are also not made the same way as they are today. 

The way they were made in the past were made by the process of Mercury Glass, it process is when an ornament was made of double walls.  Once that is done, a liquid silver solution is put between the two layers and then sealed.  After that the outside of the ornaments are colored in various colors.  Other then the actual bauble ornaments there are other types of vintage Christmas tree decorations as well.  There are many places that you can also find vintage Christmas lights as well. 

When decorating trees started they used dried fruits and other materials, and the lights were often candles.  This was very dangerous and once electricity became more widely popular Christmas lights started popping up in more and more homes.  These lights were way more safer then candles, and you could also have different colors.  For that reason they became very popular and still are in today's times.

Another very popular Christmas ornament were called Knee Hugger Elves.  These elves often had porcelain heads, and clothe bodies where the arms wrapped around the knees.  These elves are often painted in Christmas related colors like red, green, gold, silver, and other colors that represent the season. 

There are many different places that you can find these types of ornaments.  Online is one of the biggest places where you can find vintage Christmas ornaments, but there are also other places where you can find them.  Many people are able to find vintage ornaments when they go to garage sales, and other swap meets, and flea markets.  These are great places to find vintage ornaments that are still in great shape for a very low price.  Very often you can find these cheaper at garage sales, flea markets and other places then the Internet.
